Movie Review: Twilight

Have to say "thanks" again to Tammy for letting me watch this newly release human-vampire drama, Twilight.


Personally, I always enjoyed fictional movies/series about vampires. From Blade to Underworld, Buffy the Vampire Slayer to Angel, I can never have enough of it. The different features of a vampire from different movies just fascinates me. In Blade, vampires can fight like ninjas and are vulnerable to UV light, in Underworld, vampires have organizations and are vulnerable to guns with UV bullets, in Buffy and Angel, vampires have to be killed with a wooden stake.



For Twilight, the vampires are very different from the regular vampires. It's like a combined feature of vampires from other movies with a little personal touch added. They are modern(don't sleep in coffins), go to school(like normal kids), have insane speed and strenght(although they still need a car for transportation) and can have kids(surprising eh?). That's just the similarities, for the differences, you've got to watch the movie or read the book to find out yourself. =P

The Story: The story revovles around a teenage girl named Bella. After her mum remarries to another man and decided to move to Florida from Arizona, Bella decided to live with his dad in the rainy and remote town of Forks. Starting her new life in the school, she met up with a pale and mysterious boy named Edward. One day, Bella was miraculously saved from a near death accident all thanks to Edward who jumped in and stopped the car with his bare hand. Wanting to understand how he did it and know what he really is, Bella went all out to search for answers. Soon, Bella and Edward found themselves swept up in a forbidden romance between a human and a vampire.


The Review: I have to say that the love drama in this movie is good. Almost 70% of the movie is about the love story of Bella and Edward, bringing romance into a level unachievable by humans. The writter did a really good job in writting a "playing-hard-to-get" or some would put it "so close yet so far" storyline. I'm very sure that girls out there will simply love this movie.

Like I said earlier, the vampires are very different from regulars. That really made the vampires in this movie unique. I also like the fact that they put in some humans in the movie(Bella's dad and classmates), that really brings out the normal family life and school life of a teenage girl.

The only thing I dislike about the movie is the acting. Honestly, I haven't heard of Kristen Stewart(Bella)and Robert Pattinson(Edward). This is my first time seeing them on screen. In the first half of the movie where the camera was focusing on their facial expression, it was really a turn off. I guess the actors and actresses didn't have enough experience because they seriously overacted in huge number of scenes.

All and all, putting the bad acting aside, Twilight is a good romance/fiction movie. If you are into teenage drama's it's a must watch! =D
